North Greenville University’s baseball team took the lead this past weekend in the weekend series against Newberry College winning all three games.
NGU won their first game on Friday against Newberry 5-2, on Saturday they won both games 7-5 and 13-5.
On Friday, NGU scored their first run in the 1st inning of the game. Adam Sasser sent the ball to right center field and Jeremy Whitehead scored putting NGU on the scoreboard. No teams scored any points between the 2nd and 5th inning.
During the 6th inning Newberry scored their first run and NGU scored two runs. Jared Williams advanced to third base and scored on a throwing error by center field. John Michael Faile scored another run bring the score to 3-1 with NGU on top.
Both teams scored one run in the 7th inning. Faile scored another run in the bottom of the 7th inning. NGU scored another run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Whitehead scored to bring the score to 5-2 with NGU still leading. Newberry did not score any runs in the top of the 9th inning ending the game with NGU winning the game 5-2.
On Saturday, NGU played their next two games against Newberry.
In their first game, Newberry scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning leaving the score 2-0 with Newberry leading. North Greenville scored two runs in the 2nd inning. Sasser hit a homerun and Jeffrey Chandler Jr. scored a run bringing the score to a 2-2 tie.
Newberry scored again and NGU scored two runs in the 4th inning. Chandler scored a run and then Jack Morris scored another run brining NGU into the lead with a score of 5-3. Newberry scored a run in the top of the 5th inning bringing the score to 5-4 with NGU still leading. Newberry scored another run in the top of the 7th inning which tied the score 5-5. In the bottom of the 7th inning NGU scored two runs. Chandler hit a homerun to center field and Sasser scored bringing the final score 7-5.
In the last game of the weekend, NGU scored their five runs in the 1st inning bringing the score 5-0 with NGU taking a big lead against Newberry. In the 4th inning Utah Jones and Chandler scored keeping NGU in the lead with a score of 7-0. Newberry scored a homerun and a run in the top of the 5th inning bringing the score 7-2. Sasser hit a homerun in the 6th inning. Williams and Faile scored bringing the score 10-2 with NGU still leading.
Newberry and NGU scored a run in the 7th inning. NGU continues to lead against Newberry.
Newberry and NGU each scored two more runs in the 8th inning leaving the final score 13-5 with NGU coming out on top.
